Your Appointment

When you come for your appointment please remember to bring along the following information:

  • Your appointment letter (if issued).
    In some circumstances, an appointment is booked over the phone and the patient may choose to receive the appointment details via SMS.  If this is the case, an appointment letter will not have been issued, unless the patient requests one.
  • Any medical information.
  • Insurance documents (if you are a Private Patient).

Type of scan

We offer 3 types of scan.

Preparing for your scan

Depending on the type of scan you are receiving, you may need to prepare for the scan beforehand by eg. Fasting or having a full bladder.

When you book your appointment with our Administration team they will provide guidance over the phone and if an appointment letter is issued it will also state how to prepare for your scan.  If you are unsure, please contact a member of our team.

Duration of your scan

The average duration of each scan takes approximately 15-20 minutes.  In some circumstances it may take a little longer if the sonographer is scanning more than one area.

How to prepare for your Ultrasound scan

Renal/Urinary Tract Full Bladder.  We recommend that you drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before you scan.

Diabetic Patients*

Please fast for 4 hours and bring a light snack to eat after your scan.

Low Residue Diet

A low residue diet is similar to a low fibre diet, but typically includes restrictions on foods that increase bowel activity, such as milk, milk products and prune juice. A low residue diet typically contains less than 7-10 grams of fibre per day.

  • Whole grain breads and pastas, corn bread or muffins, products made with whole grain products, or bran
  • Strong cheese, yoghurt containing fruit skins or seed
  • Raw vegetables, except lettuce and other leaves
  • Tough meat, meat with gristle
  • Peanut butter
  • Millet, buckwheat, flax
  • Dried beans, peas, legumes
  • Dried fruits, berries, other fruits with skin or seeds
  • Chocolate with cocoa powder (white chocolate has no fibre)
  • Food containing whole coconut
  • Juices with pulp
  • Highly spiced food and dressings, pepper, hot sauces
  • Caffeine
  • Popcorn
  • Nuts and seeds
